Meet Samar Khan!

Samar Khan is a dedicated mother, educator, and advocate for equity and representation in education. Samar put down roots in Lower Merion, Montgomery County, PA, almost a decade ago. She is running for the Lower Merion School Board to ensure every student has the resources and opportunities they need to thrive to be prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
  • Samar has called Lower Merion Township home for nearly a decade, raising her two daughters and contributing by volunteering in the local schools and community. As a graduate of the Emerge PA program, a Leadership Philadelphia Core Class Fellow, and World Affairs Council Global Leadership Institute Fellow, she is committed to leveraging her civic leadership, cross-cultural fluency skills and experience to create an inclusive and enriching educational environment. As an Asian American, Samar believes in the power of education as an equalizer and works to ensure all students have access to opportunities for success.
  • Samar holds an MBA from Thomas Jefferson University and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce, majoring in the Management of Financial Institutions from De La Salle University, where she was actively involved in leadership roles, such as Assistant Vice President of the Management of Financial Institutions Association.
  • Samar brings combined more than 10 years of experience in banking, higher education and project management. She is currently a Project Manager, at Temple University focusing on strategic initiatives. Previously, she served as Associate Director at the Fox School of Business, where she managed programs in business analytics and data science. Samar has held positions as an adjunct faculty member, teaching business communications, and as an Assistant Director, leading change management and event planning initiatives. Her background includes roles in commercial banking at Santander Bank and internships at Deutsche Bank, and Citibank. Samar is also a recipient of Accenture’s Ultimate Leadership Award, presented to her at an Accenture Student Leadership Conference with more than 60 student attendees.
  • Samar brings a wealth of board experience and advocacy to her candidacy for school board. She has served on various local councils and boards, including serving as an Ambassador for the American Cancer Society’s ResearcHERS initiative, where she champions funding for female cancer researchers. Her advocacy focuses on women, girls, and underrepresented groups, with a strong emphasis on addressing racial disparities and social justice. Samar is actively involved in leadership roles with organizations such as the Lower Merion Historical Society, Bucks-Mont Collaborative, and Coalition4Justice, demonstrating her commitment to community service, education and social change.
  • In 2024, Samar was selected to serve on the Moving Montco Forward Commerce & Economic Development Transition Committee. The purpose of the committee was to make advisory recommendations to Montgomery County Commissioners on revitalization and workforce development in Montgomery County, PA. Samar’s recommendations were specifically focused on connecting high school and undergraduate students to colleges and internship/employment opportunities, to help support graduating students preparedness for higher education and career success.
